The Egyptians believed the Beetle was sacred because of how they would roll around dung. They thought it resembled the way the gods would move the sun around the sky. They also noticed how the beetle would lay eggs inside the dung and mysteriously beetles would emerge from the dung. The beetle is therefore connected with the god Kephri, which meant “come into being”, “develop”, and “create”.
