High above Princes Street, nestled beside Edinburgh Castle, there have probably been dwelling houses for well over 1,000 years. The present buildings, however, only go back to a redevelopment in the 18th century. Since there were no official planning controls in those days, there is a delightful mix of architectural styles, including an octagonal "Goose-pie" house built by Allan Ramsay the poet. There is a beautiful spacious flat, with a panoramic 360 degree view, designed by Sir Patrick Geddes (regarded as the "father" of town planning) which was created to encourage the University professors to return to the "Old Town" of Edinburgh. One of nine buildings in the "Kiel Fragments" series, this one usually sits on top of the StenaLine terminal, where passengers embark on the Gothenburg-bound ferries. It’s slanted by design, but doesn’t have the stepped part on the left. I also removed the text next to the "Port of Kiel" rooftop logo, thinking it might add a bit of mystery to have it by itself.

Perusing through my Paris portfolio from a visit that I did back in 2013, I came across these couple of images of Versailles. In the next few months, I will be processing and posting images from the interior of the castle. Until then, you will have to settle for these remaining ones of the exterior. All images are taken with a Canon 5D III (full frame) and a Canon 7D II (crop frame) using a variety of Canon L-Series lenses, and Tamron and Sigma pro-line lenses; processed in RAW with ACR, PSC, Photomatix, and a variety of other imaging software.
