Remembering the well-loved Lazarus Department Store in Columbus Ohio. Lazarus was a regional department store retail chain operating primarily in the Midwest. Lazarus developed or was an early adopter of many shopping innovations such as "one low price" (no bargaining necessary, earlier implemented by the John Wanamaker Store), first department store escalators in the country, first air-conditioned store in the country, and Fred Lazarus Jr. successfully lobbied President Franklin Roosevelt to permanently fix Thanksgiving as the fourth Thursday in November, ensuring a stable timetable for the official beginning of the Christmas shopping season.

Cross of a little known order of hospitallers and knights from the Middle Ages. Why should you be interested in it then? The Lazarites were not only engaged in a fight for the Holy Land - their main mission was to take care of the lepers in the hospital in Jerusalem. The unusual thing is that the lepers were, at the time, feared like the fire itself, and few were willing to look after those unfortunates, in fear of being infected. The Order of the Lazarites looked after them nevertheless, spreading knowledge about isolation of infectious diseases in Europe and giving rise to the word lazaretto, while also contributing to the development of modern, by the standards of those times, hospital facilities. A big achievement, and the green cross.

I created this after finding and binge watching the first series of A Discovery of Witches in January 2019. It's a fantastic TV series, I absolutely love it! The author of the trilogy of books the TV show is based on is a historian and we are introduced to the Order of the Knights of Lazarus (The Military and Hospitaller Order of Saint Lazarus of Jerusalem (Ordo Militaris et Hospitalis Sancti Lazari Hierosolymitani)) via the De Clermont family. As Dianna reads the artefact she finds, she seems to say that MDCL on it stands for Matthew De Clermont (Matthew Clairmont).
