In 1961 when Alice Schiller's husband told her that he wanted to convert their nightclub into a striptease joint, she burst into tears. After she dried her eyes, she decided that if she was going to run a strip club, she would make it the classiest one in Los Angeles, one that men would bring their wives to. So, how did Alice do that? She decided to control all aspects of the club, beginning with the ladies who are taking off their clothes. In order to have the classiest strippers, Alice created The Pink Pussycat College of Strip Tease, which ensured all of their performers were up to snuff. The Pink Pussycat ran well into the '70s, but later became a disco as burlesque reviews started falling out of favor.
