Earth Carpet is one of two abstract paintings I have done so far, which will form part of a series of four - Earth Carpet, Space Carpet, Ocean Carpet and Forest Carpet, with a possible fifth being Winter Carpet. Each one is a reconstruction of traditional bits of Persian carpet patterns. I took small sections from a number of larger traditional patterns, deconstructed them and then reconstructed the bits into a completely new pattern. I themed this reconstruction with colours of the earth - the browns of soil, greens of mineral ores, yellows and red for ochre colours, I also had in mind the colours of the things that grow in the earth - the greens of leaves, the colours of fields of flowers. jazz guitarists in my signature rhythmic cubist style. It's called Guitar Warp which I've stenciled in the painting but in French. Earth tones, siennas, umbers, cerulean outlines. A big, dramatic work. While that monster hurricane was heading towards FL, everybody was running around frantically getting supplies, water, gas. I stayed home and painted and it had to be big to keep my mind off of the terror. Lucky for us it turned and didn't affect my area, unfortunately it didn't miss the Bahamas. Painting always makes me feel safe and secure, my studio is my safe place.
