B&M came up with the idea of using a competition reinforced Hydramatic transmission for drag racing in the '50s and has been making performance automatic shifters, torque converters, shift kits, and transmission coolers ever since.

Drag racing was a far different motorsport back in 1967, when construction concluded on the original quarter-mile. "Supertrack,"a ground up drag strip project funded by a hard-to-believe budget of over $1,000,000. In 1967, drag racing was still struggling to shuck its notorious public image as weekend recreation for juvenile delinquents wearing the inevitable black leather jackets and greasy jeans, but OCIR worked to change those perceptions by building a best-in-class facility that would soon play host to some of the top racing events in the country, including the PDA Championships where legendary drivers and their notorious cars brought the thunder to Orange County.

LM & P Motor Parts was an auto parts supplier serving the great Los Angeles area for decades. This design comes from a thrifted tee that carried a date of 1974 which had seen better days, so it was redrawn and made new again before being elegantly destroyed by hand.

A design I thought of for the car people out there that prefer the whine of a supercharger and there boost to bit at the low end.

While organized drag racing came about in 1951, it was in the early '60s that the big three started paying attention. Detroit began quietly building stock-looking cars stuffed full of high-performance parts and no factory warranty, aimed squarely at taking drag strips by storm. With this new breed of off the lot drag racers, increasing numbers of people were suddenly able to get into drag racing without having to build a car from scratch, and boy did they ever. Once the bug had bitten them, they were all in as drag nuts and their stock racers began the never-ending modification process that all hot rodders go through in pursuit of speed.

In the early '70s, JuiceBox Performance Batteries were THE battery of choice for anyone running an extremely high compression and/or high cubic inch racing engine. So, what was the secret sauce? Unlike most traditional batteries with rubber casing, JuiceBox casings were made of polypropylene, which was about 75% thinner and 4x stronger. The extra space inside was used for more acid and more plates, resulting in batteries with 2x the cranking power of traditional builds. This meant that blown big block would turn over every time, even after a hot stall.

John Bandimere, Sr. built his first race car in 1937, an old coupe running a flathead V8, which he raced in the Pikes Peak Hill Climb to a ninth place finish. Always known as an innovator, Bandimere went on to become a nationally known expert on supercharging, and began manufacturing and selling speed parts as Bandimere Auto Parts in Denver, Colorado. In 1958, Bandimere purchased land just west of Denver, where he and his family began constructing a drag strip that was to be used to augment their auto parts business. That small drag strip on the hill would become Bandimere Speedway, or as many call it, Thunder Mountain. The drag strip would grow and eventually eclipse the speed shop, with Bandimere focusing on its operation full time.

Like other performance pioneers, Ed Iskenderian was a Southern California hot rodder in the years leading up to World War II, learning speed secrets in an effort to make his own T roadster go faster. Grinding camshafts came after the war when a sudden demand for parts - fueled by returning GIs eager to get back to hot rodding - was so great that Iskenderian was faced with a long wait for a cam he wanted for his own car. Figuring he could do as just as good himself, he bought a surplus cylindrical grinder, converted it into a cam-grinding machine, and went to work. He wasn't just making a similar cam to those available at the time - he made them better, rightfully earning him the nickname of 'The Camfather.'

Jennings Performance started out as a small speed shop, primarily distributing go fast parts from manufacturers across the country from a small storefront in Lockwood, Montana. They eventually moved into a shop space where they started doing installs, and as the story goes, it only took a few years before they had a complete machine shop and were customizing off the rack parts and making totally custom parts of their own design. Probably their biggest claim to fame was their house designed Roots-type superchargers, of which only about 200 were made during the 20 or so years that they were in business. They were alleged to make ungodly amounts of horsepower compared to other makes of the time...
