Looking across the swing bridge at Sulhamstea in Berkshire, England, crossing the Kennet and Avon Canal. This is one of the farm bridges allowing cattle to cross the canal to the fields on the opposite bank. This image was captured on a sunny September evening, the low sun accentuating the colours.

This image was shot from the Tyne Bridge looking up river towards the Swing Bridge and High Level bridges connecting the City of Newcastle to Gateshead. The Swing Bridge is a Grade II listed building and was completed in 1875 with a span of 85.5 meters.

A digital pencil drawing of the cottages which sit next to the swing bridge over the River Kennet in the heart of Newbury, West Berkshire. This is the West Mills area as once there were corn mills here utilising the water from the river to drive the millwheels. Here the Kennet Navigation is about to become the Kennet and Avon Canal taking boats to Bath and Bristol. To the right is Newbury's Town Lock taking boats eastwards to Reading and the Thames.

There are a number of swing bridges along the canal, some like this one linking two fields, enabling livestock to be moved from one to the other. The K&A dates from the early 18th century when it was constructed to link the River Avon in the west to the River Kennet in the east so that boats could travel between Bristol and London.

The Hooker Valley Track is one of the best half-day walks in New Zealand. The Matukituki River is a typical glacier fed wide braided stream for a lot of its distance. But it narrows for a short distance past the end of the Mt Aspiring road from Wanaka, New Zealand. Linking Newcastle upon Tyne and Gateshead, the Tyne Bridge is the most celebrated and most iconic of the seven bridges crossing the River Tyne. The Tyne Bridge was designed by the engineering firm Mott, Hay and Anderson and was built by Dorman Long and Co. of Middlesbrough who later went on to build Sydney Harbour Bridge, which opened three years later in 1932.

The tranquil view from the towpath near the Weavers Cottages in West Mills, Newbury belies the once-bustling corn mills powered by the River Kennet. Hovis bought the mill in 1921, which was then sold in the 1950s. The tall granary building across the river stands as a testament to its industrial history. The swing bridge on the right leads to the town centre, while the mill's sluice gates can be seen on the left. The reflections of the mill buildings and trees on the calm water of the Kennet and Avon Canal.

The Hooker Valley track was absolutely worth the walk. This was one of the first epic lookouts we reached, just before the first swing bridge. Around every corner there seemed to be yet another amazing view!
