It stands 156 feet tall and is located on the Roanoke Sound side of a portion of a peninsula that is the first part of the Cape Hatteras National Seashore.

The current Bodie Island Lighthouse is the third that has stood in this vicinity of Bodie Island on the Outer Banks in North Carolina and was built in 1872. It stands 156 feet tall and is located on the Roanoke Sound side of a portion of a peninsula that is the first part of the Cape Hatteras National Seashore.

The Outer Banks of North Carolina have a magic that entices all who travel through any one of her more than 400 year old towns. From Carova all the way down to Ocracoke island people have been drawn to the undisturbed beauty found on OBX.

Built in 1872 and restored in 2013, the Bodie Island Lighthouse is one of the few brick lighthouses remaining in the U.S. It is now owned and operated by the National Park Service and is within the Cape Hatteras National Seashore. Visitors are allowed to climb the 214 steps once a month, and full moon climbs are sometimes offered.
