It feeds on brain wave energy, absorbing all unconscious frequencies and then excreting telepathically a matrix formed from the conscious frequencies and nerve signals picked up from the speech centres of the brain, the practical upshot of which is that if you stick one in your ear, you can instantly understand anything said to you in any form of language, as said in The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy.

“Share and Enjoy” is of course the slogan of the Sirius Cybernetics Corporation Complaints Division and was displayed in three mile high illuminated letters near the SCCCD which now covers the major land mass of three medium sized planets. Unfortunately its weight was such that shortly after it was erected it collapsed and dropped nearly half its length. The protruding upper halves of the letters now appear, in the local language, to read “go stick your head in a pig” and are no longer illuminated except at times of special celebration.

Which might be just as good because it can do some pretty cool stuff. Powered by an Infinite Improbability Drive the Heart of Gold is the only ship that Zaphod could use to get to Magrathea, in style. Another design that’s part of my ‘Weird Scifi Quotes’ collection.
