The Remarkables are a mountain range and skifield in Otago in the South Island of New Zealand. Located on the southeastern shore of Lake Wakatipu, the range lives up to its name by rising sharply to create an impressive backdrop for the waters. The range is clearly visible from the nearby town of Queenstown. The highest point in the range is Double Cone (2319 metres). The adjacent Hector Mountains southeast of the Remarkables culminate in Mount Tuwhakaroria (2307 metres). A Promarker illustration of Queenstown Clocktower. When I first arrived in Queenstown I lost my wallet for three days so by the time someone handed it in (thanks friendly locals!) I'd had plenty of time to get to know the town inside out. I was very familiar with this clocktower after three trips to collect emergency travel money!!

Head along the road to Glenorchy for 10 minutes and you'll come across a lovely picnic spot right on Lake Wakatipu. The still water and beautiful views are the definition of tranquility. It's also a starting point for a few walking and biking trails.

Reaquanting myself with Queenstown I marched up Ben Lomond on a cloudless day. The last third of the hike is super steep and hot! Worth it for the views though.

I didn't plan on getting up to watch the sunrise on our last morning in Queenstown, but when I woke up at 5.15am and my whole hotel room was lit up in pink, I grabbed my camera and ran to the lakeshore, which was luckily just across the road from the hotel. It was definitely worth it!

Bathhouse Cafe, Restaurant & Bar in Queenstown caught my eye the first time I cycled past it because of it's unusual architecture. I planned to paint it for about a year and just never quite got around to it! Today was the day. Freezing myself in Winter! Thanks to Bathhouse for the permission to sell.

I wasn't even planning on drawing anything the day I created this but every time I cycle past this view I can't help stopping and soaking it up some more. This was also the time I realised if I couldn't fit a whole mountain range in a drawing I just needed to make it wider! Who knew!

From a History of England published 1912. Cobh is famous as the last port of call of Titanic on her maiden voyage. It was also an embarkation point for those being deported to the Penal colonies like Australia & the place where an estimated 2.5 million emigrants left for North America. It was renamed as Queenstown in 1849 after Queen Victoria's visit to Ireland, but was returned to its original name by the Irish Free State in the 1920's Please note with regard to scanned antique prints there may be some age related marks or faults from the originals which will show also on any print ordered. With lockdown lifting to Level Two, we went climbing up Wye Creek for a friends birthday. I'd yet to get up there and it didn't disappoint. The view was another classic Wakatipu beauty and the crag itself was made for climbing. Such unusual gnarly rock!

After trying to leave for Australia, I'm back in Queenstown for an unknown amount of time. It's been emotional but reconnecting with the mountains is bringing me home.
