The third in my series of illustrative works for tarot. The beautiful Empress.

I typically paint Yzma taking over other Princess's worlds, but it was high time I had her ruling her own :) Originally painted in watercolors, gouache and inks.

Realistic Fire and EMS Graphics created by Bass D. (originally for lstsim.de, online dispatch simulator). Drawings started from scratch and are drawn to scale 600px = 1mtr for the game. This card represents, the newel or creation of life, romance or art. The third card from the major arcana a card you would want to see.

The AURYN is a symbol of the Empress. The AURYN is an uroboros, which is a fancy way of describing a snake that’s biting its own tail, only with the AURYN there are two snakes, each swallowing the other’s tail. There are several layers to this symbolism. First, the snake represents rejuvenation and rebirth since the reptile routinely sloughs off its skin . Next, there is an element of duality to this uroboros that is further highlighted by the two metals.

The Empress card in the Tarot deck is representative of the productivity of the subconscious, seeded by ideas. She is meant to be the embodiment of the growth of the natural world, fertility, and what one knows or believes from the heart. When she appears in a reading it can represent the creation of not just a child but of ideas, inspiration and enlightenment as well.
