They're very popular in Finland, but fairly rare other places. They have a gentle nature and are great family pets especially in homes with children, elders, and people with special needs who would benefit from this sweet, soft-tempered dog.

Once known as the Australian Silky Terrier or Sydney Silky Terrier, this breed was created in the 1800s by crossing the Australian Terrier and a Yorkshire terrier with a goal of creating a hearty vermin catcher. While a terrier, the Silky qualifies for the toy group being less than 10lbs and 10 inches high. The Silky's size does not deter it! They are precocious little pets who are up to any challenge. They are even used as watch dogs because of all their excitable barking.
