The Las Magnets

The El Rancho Hotel and Casino (formerly known as the Thunderbird and Silver Bird) was a hotel and casino that operated on the Las Vegas Strip in Winchester, Nevada. It originally opened on September 2, 1948, as the Navajo-themed Thunderbird. The Thunderbird was sold to Tiger Investment Company, which leased it to Major Riddle starting in 1977. Riddle renovated and expanded the resort, and renamed it as the Silver Bird, hoping to reinvigorate it. After Riddle's death in 1980, the Silver Bird was taken over by his estate. The resort closed on December 3, 1981, after an auction failed to produce a buyer on the lease. Ed Torres subsequently purchased the Silver Bird and reopened it as the El Rancho on August 31, 1982.

Someone glued cowboy hats to pigeons in Las Vegas. The pigeons are not cool with that! The pigeons, nicknamed Cluck Norris, Coolamity Jane and Billie The Pidge, are being trapped and freed from their hats. Cute as it may be for birds to wear hats, they prevent them from grooming, obscure their vision, making it easier to fall prey to raptors and other predators, and make flight more difficult. This is what they think about your hats.

The Crystals // Retro Girl Group Fan Design

"Casino Center" was a downtown branding effort that came and went in the 60s. 2nd Street was renamed "Casino Center Blvd" in the middle of this campaign. It was the first but not the last time downtown competed with the Strip for visitors. They also built a billboard sign along I-15 approaching Las Vegas, 1967 that read Downtown Casino Center → 10 Minutes. The name change has stood the test of time, as for that "Downtown Casino Center" sign, it was built by the same team who made the Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas sign. They first placed it near the site of the present-day Cosmo, then later moved it out to the highway. Unfortunately its now long gone.

The Paddlewheel was a river-boat themed hotel and casino located on 305 Convention Center Drive near the Las Vegas Strip in Paradise, Nevada. The hotel was known for being more kid-friendly, including amusement rides and multiple arcade games. Eventually, a male revue was added, and the rides were removed, making the hotel less kid-friendly. The hotel was also known for its all you can eat crab legs and ribs. It went up for sale by Hord and Hardart in 1990 and was bought by Debbie Reynolds to become the Debbie Reynolds Hollywood Hotel.

Vintage Bird Cage Casino Las Vegas Nevada

The Castaways was a hotel and casino on the Las Vegas Strip in Paradise, Nevada. It began in the 1930s, as a small motel called Mountain View. It became the San Souci in 1939, and underwent several ownership changes in its early years. Reopened as the Polynesian-themed Castaways on September 1, 1963. The Castaways closed on July 20, 1987 to make way for the future Mirage--also soon to go away.

Nomi Malone, the protagonist of Showgirls, has a lot of plans for the future and has little to say about the past. When asked she snaps back that she's from "Different Places", and I assume that's where she goes back to when she leaves Vegas
