Phantasm is a 1979 American science fantasy horror film that was locally financed with a cast and crew that were mostly amateurs and aspiring professionals. The self-titled first film in the franchise, introduces the Tall Man, a supernatural and malevolent undertaker who turns the dead of Earth into dwarf zombies to be sent to his planet and used as slaves. He is opposed by a young boy, Mike, who tries to convince his older brother Jody and family friend Reggie of the threat.

Vince Lombardi High School keeps losing principals to nervous breakdowns because of the rowdy students' love of rock 'n' roll and their disregard of education. A new principal, the rock-music-hating Miss Togar, is brought in with promises to put an end to the music craze, but when Miss Togar and a group of parents attempt to burn a pile of rock records, the students fight back and take over the school. When the police are called and demand that the students evacuate the building, they do so, which leads to an explosive finale. For better or for worse, this is the synopsis of the 1979 musical comedy, Rock 'n' Roll High School.

Meatballs is a 1979 Canadian teen comedy film that follows the wacky hi jinks of counselors and campers at a low budget summer camp. The film includes a shy boy named Rudy who arrives at Camp North Star to find it full of rowdy teens. The head counselor is a prank-pulling, girl-seducing, man child named Tripper. Across the lake is a camp for rich kids called Camp Mohawk. They’ve dominated the yearly games through cheating for 12 years straight, and it’s up to Rudy to help change that. Meatballs was well received, and was the highest-grossing Canadian film of all time in the United States and Canada. Who knew?

The 28th National Square Dance Convention was held in Milwaukee, Wisconsin on June 28, 29, and 30 of 1979. While I have no idea what happens at square dance conventions, committees setting rules to limit the number of consecutive do-si-dos and unbridled square dancing on levels most of us can't even begin to imagine come to mind. Throughout the '80s these would pop up in thrift shops and the one and only Lemmy scored one in '82 and it quickly became one of his favorite tees.

Five Alive was a line of fruit juice blends created in the late '70s, so if you're an '80s kid, you undoubtedly consumed some at one point. Both the name and the five colors of the logo referred to the five fruit juices each variety contains. Marketing for Five Alive featured the slant rhyme catchphrase “get a taste for life”. Starting in 1981, Five Alive was released in traditional juice box cartons alongside the 12 and 16 oz. cans of frozen concentrate. By the '90s, Five Alive was no longer available in the U.S. market and not long after that it had disappeared from international markets as well.
