A First Lieutenant is an officer in the United States Army. As with second lieutenants, officers holding this rank serve either as the leaders of a platoon-sized element (15-50 soldiers) or as staff officers. All first lieutenants hold either one of these types of positions during their time in this rank. The position of commanding a platoon, known formally as being a platoon leader, is the only job required of a lieutenant to be promoted to the next rank. It is the more prestigious job, and the one for which the Army commissions lieutenants, both second and first, in the first place.

1st Battalion, 14th Infantry: In the fall of 1965 the 25th Division was ordered to Vietnam. The initial brigade to go was the 3rd Brigade composed of the 1st Battalion, 14th Infantry, the 1st Battalion, 35th Infantry, the 2nd Battalion, 35th Infantry and the 2nd Battalion, 9th Artillery. The urgency of getting the 3rd Brigade to the Central Highlands of Vietnam led to the Army and Air Force undertaking Operation Blue Light, a massive airlift of the entire 3rd Brigade from Hawaii to Pleiku. The airlift began on 28 December 1965 and was successfully concluded on 17 January 1966.

Lt. Yuuka Hibiki takes a break from a hard day's work by enjoying the fresh air at Sector 9's docking platform. She is a Communications Lieutenant (her rank is defined by her ribbon cape) where her holograms provide her with commands, messages and translations. She then navigates around the ship, delivering the new orders to the crew. She originally started out as an ink drawing in my sketchbook, which I then uploaded to Photoshop. An original character created a few months ago, inspired by Honkai 3rd Impact. Hope you enjoy!

In the United States, second lieutenant is the normal entry-level rank for most commissioned officers in the Army, Air Force and Marine Corps and is equivalent to the rank of ensign in the Navy and Coast Guard. In the Army and Marine Corps, a second lieutenant typically leads a platoon-size element (16 to 44 soldiers or Marines). In the army, until December 1917, the rank bore no insignia other than a brown sleeve braid on blouses and an officer's cap device and hat cord. In December 1917, a gold-colored bar similar to the silver-colored bar of a first lieutenant was introduced. In US Army slang, the rank is sometimes called "butterbar" in reference to the insignia

Celebrate the classic movie Zulu and the awesome portrayal of Lieutenant John Chard by Stanley Baker with this splendid illustration. Zululand, South Africa, 1879. The British are fighting the Zulus and one of their columns has just been wiped out at Isandlwana. The Zulus next fix their sights on the small British outpost at Rorke's Drift. At the outpost are 150 British troops under the command of Lieutenants Bromhead and Chard. In the next few days these 150 troops will fight about 4,000 Zulus in one of the most courageous battles in history.

Watching Lt. Kenda is a pleasure and a privilege. I just wanted to have one shirt for myself.
