A wider view of the restaurant on the Uetliberg (873 m (2864 ft)), a mountain in the Swiss plateau, part of the Albis chain. The Uetliberg offers a panoramic view of the entire city and Lake of Zürich. This shot was taken from the Uetliberg TV-tower (132 m). Now you can see just how high up I was. Later that evening, a large group of us had a memorable dinner in the restaurant. It was a wonderful evening … BEST VIEWED LARGER

One of the outstanding beauty spots in all of Scotland is the Queen’s View where a panorama of lake and mountain scenery stretches westwards as far as the Glencoe hills, on clear days. There is just a little doubt about which Queen is meant. Victoria certainly visited it in 1866, when travelling privately, “incognita” as she so correctly puts it. BEST VIEWED LARGER

The view from high on the Tarpon Springs Boulevard (the only real road on the island of Halki, Greece), looking past the village of Nimborio towards Rhodes in the distance. Halki is a small yet very charming island in the Dodecanese that is situated opposite the west coast of Rhodes. The residents of Tarpon Springs, Florida, USA endowed Halki first with money for its stone clock tower, and, more lately, with the money to build the road to the Monastery far up in the mountains – the Boulevard Tarpon Springs, which took about 6 years, being finished in 1995. A typical view on the beautiful Isle of Skye, Scotland. Sometimes referred to in Gaelic poetry and song as Eilean a’ Cheò (The Misty Isle), Skye is renown for its natural beauty, history and wildlife.

The view from the terrace at the top of the Funicular Railway on Cairn Gorm, Scotland. Cairn Gorm lies at the northern end of the Cairngorm Mountains; a high and exceptionally remote plateau largely over 4000ft in height and segmented by deep north-south valleys. Cairn Gorm is Scotland’s sixth highest mountain at 4082ft or 1244m: the Cairngorms collectively also contain four other, higher summits culminating in Ben Macdui at 4295ft or 1309m.
