Appeal to Heaven T-Shirt

Americana T-Shirt

designed and sold by  GrailQuester

There has long been questions as to the extensive use and colors of the New England Flag at Bunker Hill, the first formal battle action between the two armies. But Connecticut artist John Trumbull (who was observing in the vicinity), and 19th century historian Benson John Lossing (known for his scrupulous attention to facts and tracking down primary sources), both attest to these two flags being present. The motto, "Appeal to Heaven", was taken from chapter 14 of 'Second Treatise of Civil Government' by political philosopher, John Locke. The motto was used on the official naval ensign of the Colonials, which also contained a pine tree. Both flags are still in use by communities in Maine and Massachusetts. (Art by Kasandra Radke)
