The Cromford Canal ran 14.5 miles (23.3 kilometres) from Cromford to the Erewash Canal in Derbyshire, England with a branch to Pinxton. Built by William Jessop with the assistance of Benjamin Outram, its alignment included four tunnels and 14 locks and was completed in 1794. Today, it is partially navigable and partially derelict. The parts that are still navigable are lovely to walk beside, and it is one of these sections that I have depicted here. This is a picture executed in Staedtler karat aquarell watercolour pencil on A3 vif Art watercolour paper.

A watercolour of the historic Breadsall Priory in my home county of Derbyshire, England. The first buildings here date back to the 13th Century. The priory is now a hotel and famous for its beautiful gardens.

In 2011 the built-up-area subdivision had a population of 88,483, making it the second-largest settlement in Derbyshire, after Derby. The wider borough had a population of 103,801 in 2011. In 2011, the town had a population of 76,753. It has been traced to a transitory Roman fort of the 1st century CE. The name of the later Anglo-Saxon village comes from the Old English ceaster and feld. It has a sizeable street market three days a week.
