Low-visibility roundel used on the Lockheed Martin Lightning 2, with the centre being the same grey as the airframe.

Roundel had an outer yellow ring which was thicker than used during WW1. Alternative to A.1 on some aircraft 1940 – 1942, including the Grumman Martlet as received from the factory, indicating that it was likely official despite the lack of orders describing it.

Spitfire Mk.IX, 5J-K, Pilot Johnny Plagis. Johnny Plagis took command of No. 126 (Cat Gulf) Squadron in June 1944. He chose 5J-K because of the large letter “K” on its tail after his sister ‘Kay’ (Katrina) which was also painted on the port side. This is one of the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight spitfires MK356, an LF IXe, representing Johnny Plagis' aircraft which was LM214 and an LF IXc.

RAF Roundel

The Hawker Hurricane is a British Second World War fighter aircraft that was built by Hawker Aircraft Ltd. for the Royal Air Force (RAF). It was overshadowed by the Spitfire's role during the Battle of Britain, however the Hurricane inflicted 60 percent of the losses sustained by the Luftwaffe.

RAF Fighter Command was formed in 1936 in Britain to allow more specialised control of fighter aircraft. It served throughout the Second World War. It earned near-immortal fame during the Battle of Britain in 1940, when the Few held off the aerial attack on Britain.

A pale 'faded' version of the Type D. This was sometimes used when applied over anti-flash white. An intermediate (less faded) pale version was applied to some Vickers Valiants prior to the introduction of the definitive Type D 'faded' shading.

Used by units under South East Asia Command and in the CBI theatre in 1942. Red removed to avoid confusion with the Japanese hinomaru, but retained on fin flash. Not used for very long before being replaced by light blue and dark blue roundel.
