Generation X • Latchkey Kid: Generation X, or Gen X, is the demographic cohort following baby boomers and preceding the millennials. Researchers use the mid-to-late 1960s as starting birth years and the late 1970s to early 1980s as ending birth years, with the generation defined as people born from 1965 to 1980. A latchkey kid, or latchkey child, is a child who returns to an empty home after school or who is often left at home with no supervision because their parents are away at work.
