Axe Symbol Pin
designed and sold by lindaursin
Labrys, a double-headed axe that's closely associated with the Minoan civilisation, and specifically with the worship of a goddess. In Crete, the symbol always accompanies female deities and may have been the symbol of their creator Goddess. It may also be interpreted as a butterfly relating to the Minoan butterfly goddesses shown in the shape of a labrys. According to some archaeologists, it was used by Minoan priestesses for ceremonies. Since the 1970s, it's been used as a symbol of independence and self-sufficiency, and strength among feminists and lesbians. The background was created by letting the colors spread under plastic wrap.
