Before hitting the big time with "H.R. Pufnstuf," puppeteers Sid and Marty Krofft lent their psychedelic touch to the costume design and sets of this late '60s Hanna-Barbera children's series, a laugh track-laden collection of live-action buffoonery and animated segments for undiscerning young minds. Whether in their crazy clubhouse or out cavorting among the public, costumed animal hosts Fleegle, Bingo, Drooper and Snorky would engage in all manner of harmless nonsense, and even strap on musical instruments to perform hippie-dippie rock numbers. The show remains firmly lodged in the memories of baby boomers, as well as its theme tune, "The Tra La La Song (One Banana, Two Banana)."

If you were a child of the 70s, 80s, or 90s, then the chances are you were raised by television (with like three channels as an option). Show it loud and proud. As Homer said, "Television! Teacher, Mother, Secret Lover".

Chilly Willy was inspired by mystery writer Stuart Palmer, according to Scott MacGillivray's book Castle Films: A Hobbyist's Guide. Palmer used the Lantz studio as a background for his novel Cold Poison, in which the cartoon star was a penguin character, and Lantz adopted the penguin idea for the screen.The character Pablo the Penguin from the 1945 Disney film The Three Caballeros was the inspiration for Chilly Willy. Paul J. Smith initially based Chilly's design on a separate penguin character from Lantz' 1945 cartoon Sliphorn King of Polaroo, but would later be redesigned by Tex Avery in his second appearance, I'm Cold in 1954. Schoolhouse Rock's conductor is one of the most recognizable characters from the animated series. The conductor appeared in the segment Conjunction Junction to teach viewers how to use a part of grammar known as conjuctions. In a popular song, an unseen audience asks the conductor, "Conjuction Junction, what's your function?" to which he replies "Hooking up words, and phrases, and clauses."
