Kenny Monfort was a Colorado cattleman who wasn’t happy with his options for getting his product to the East Coast, so being the industrious type of fellow that he was, he put together his own trucking operation. Gate to plate was important to Monfort, so he wanted trucks with enough power to make the run in a timely manner. Not concerned with return loads, turning a profit with the trucking operation was not in the equation. Monfort teams ran five-hour shifts, and it’s easy to see why “The Monfort Lane” became a part of the trucking industry’s lexicon for the left lane, as the Monfort “Circus Wagons” were constantly pushing what their trucks could do to make time and blowing the doors off of every other truck on the road.
