High above Princes Street, nestled beside Edinburgh Castle, there have probably been dwelling houses for well over 1,000 years. The present buildings, however, only go back to a redevelopment in the 18th century. Since there were no official planning controls in those days, there is a delightful mix of architectural styles, including an octagonal "Goose-pie" house built by Allan Ramsay the poet. There is a beautiful spacious flat, with a panoramic 360 degree view, designed by Sir Patrick Geddes (regarded as the "father" of town planning) which was created to encourage the University professors to return to the "Old Town" of Edinburgh. The Windsor Town Bridge crossing the River Thames, linking Windsor and Eton in Berkshire, England. River transport was always important here particularly with the royal palace at Windsor. There has been a bridge on this site since at least the C12th when records show tolls of the equivalent of £4.33 being paid to a landowner, Osbert de Bray, for boats passing beneath the bridge. The present bridge with cast iron arches was opened in 1824. In 1970 it was made pedestrian only as it was now too weak for heavy traffic. Even pedesrian traffic took its toll on the structure so it was refurbished and reopened by the Queen in June 2002. Nikon D7100 Nikkor 18-200

The magnificent Town House in Linlithgow, West Lothian, Scotland. Built in 1668-70 to replace the original Tolbooth, demolished on the orders of Oliver Cromwell. Altered over the years, it now accommodates the Burgh Halls (including the Council Chamber of the former Linlithgow Town Council) and the local Visitor Awareness Centre. Incidently, Linlithgow is the town where I was born. I lived there until I married. When I was much younger, my friends and I would go to the “Dancing” in the Town House on a Saturday night. Bear is a small locatity on the intersection of US Route 40 and Delaware Route 7. It began supporting local farms and now is a shopping center. This is a continuation of poking fun at t-shirts with big city names on them.

This place holds a special place in our hearts and always draws us in for a day or two. There are some great shops to look around and even better scenery. Fish Street, Shrewsbury, England

Looking over the town of Vélez Blanco in Spain, clinging to a rocky hillside. Here we are in the Almeria province of Andalucia near its border with Mercia. This town of whitewashed houses shows its ancient heritage through nearby neolithic caves and high above sits its medieval castle. This image has been finished in the style of a pastel drawing.

Longyearbyen was established by American John Munro Longyear, whose Arctic Coal Company started coal-mining there in 1906. It is the world's northernmost settlement with a population greater than 1,000 and the largest inhabited area of Svalbard, Arctic Norway. Although there is still some mining, the area depends mostly on tourism and scientific research for it's income. The large yellow building in the image is the town hospital. A tree of pink cherry blossom hangs over the lake in the beautifully kept Collett park. The Park was gifted to the town of Shepton Mallet, by John Kyte Collett in 1906. It is believed that as a boy, he was told off for playing in the fields that were privately owned at the time. After many years the land started to be auctioned off and he accumulated several lots of land and presented them as a gift to the town as the park that we know and love.
