Steak, Prime Rib, and Lobster...Oh My! Steak and Ale was founded in Dallas, Texas, in 1966. It started as an independent restaurant chain offering an upscale steak experience at lower prices, and remained an independent chain until 1976. Steak and Ale grew to its height in the late 1980's with 280 locations. In 2008 the company behind the Steak & Ale chains filed for one of the largest restaurant bankruptcies ever and the chain's remaining 58 locations were closed as part of the bankruptcy proceeding.
Shakey's Pizza was founded in Sacramento, California in 1954 and was the first true franchise pizza chain in the United States. It's changed hands many times over the years and gone through many transformations, but this design is a throwback to the original.
Chotchkies serves up unexceptional chain food, but they do it with flair! Fifteen pieces minimum, to be exact. Or as condescending manager Stan smugly puts it, "People can get a cheeseburger anywhere. They come to Chotchkies for the atmosphere and the attitude. That's what the flair's about. It's about fun!" I don't know about all that. We'd skip the enforced enthusiasm and pass on the pizza shooters, shrimp poppers and extreme fajitas, and just drop by to see a young and sassy Jen Aniston flip off her boss. This version includes a nice vintage patina to give it an authentic look, kinda like you got it working there in the 80s...
Doggie Diner was a local fast food chain serving hot dogs and hamburgers in San Francisco that operated from 1948 to 1986. At one time there were 30 locations around the San Francisco Bay Area, mostly concentrated in San Francisco and were quite iconic with their giant fiberglass doggie heads on their signs. This version of the Doggie Diner design includes an embellished version of their original logo. If you'd like a more vintage appearance, check out my Doggie Diner Vintage design which includes a realistic distressing to make it look like an old school original.
Herfy's was a chain of burger drive-ins that populated the Puget Sound area from the mid-60's on. They were known for their "Herfy Burger," with secret sauce, of course. There are a number still located in the Seattle area, but it should be noted that these have nothing to do with the actual Herfy's of burger lore. For the most part their burgers were mediocre at best, but they had a life-size fiberglass cow at each location which was a hit with the kids.
Shakey's Pizza was founded in Sacramento, California in 1954, by Sherwood "Shakey" Johnson and Ed Plummer. Johnson's nickname resulted from nerve damage following a bout of malaria suffered during World War II. This Shakey's Pizza & Fun design includes a vintage illustration that was most commonly seen in their back page phone book ads and on some menus, so as a result is has an instant vintage cool factor near 11.
