Australian beaches ... beautiful one day, perfect the next. The weather forecast for an early autumn sunday was possible showers, so we packed a brolly for a walk along Palm Beach & up to the historic Barrenjoey lighthouse. It turned out to be warmer & sunnier than expected. The aqua blue water looked crystal clear & the interesting clouds formed a great backdrop. A beautiful waterfall at Girrakool which required a bit of slipping & sliding over mossy rocks to get to. Thanks heaps to Warren Patten for showing me the way to this great waterfall & thanks to Waz & David for the great company on a damp day of waterfall chasing. There is a track to a viewing platform near this waterfall but after that you need to go off the track to get to this spot. The wider view of the second waterfall we photographed at Girrakool with a supporting waterfall on the other side. I love the golden orange soil & rocks in this section of the Blue Mountains at Lawson. Federal Falls is one of the more accessible waterfalls falling into a sandy area so that you can capture it from lots of different angles. This is Federal Falls south of Lawson in the Blue Mountains National Park in Australia. It is a fairly short walk along the track to get to this spot. This is the stunning view of the Jamison Valley from the lookout near the top of the Golden Stairs as we were heading towards the Ruined Castle. Far in the distance is The Three Sisters, although you would probably be hard pressed to see them even if you view this larger. This is a 3 vertical photo stitch. Why is this bloke adding yet another photo of that scary rock you might ask ? This image shows, better than the rest, the gap between the cliff & the Rock. You might also notice that anyone jumping onto the Rock lands on sloping ground which from closer view is fairly gravely .. not solid rock. Despite this, on my 4 trips to the Rock so far, I have seen people jump over on 3 occasions. I must admit that the odd time was when I came home with my nerves more intact. Actually, when you are standing near the gap, you don't see the great drop & it is fairly wide at that section. Despite this, I could feel my heart pumping loudly as the thought of jumping entered my mind ... I sometimes listen to my heart !! This is Hanging Rock...

This is the view as you approach the falls from above. After hundreds of shots of Sylvia Falls I thought I had photographed it from every angle but this view looked so nice with the ferns & orange coloured rocks that it begged to be photographed. The walking track starts from the Valley of the Waters at a place called Wentworth Falls. The hike to the Ruined Castle is a strenuous one but after my first trip there a few years ago was cut short by a thunderstorm, resulting in few photos, I was determined to return. Searching for Terrace Falls at Hazelbrook in the Blue Mountains, my mental compass was a bit off the mark, but I did see this nice little valley with cool orange rocks & ferns. I think this little waterfall is Victor Falls, though last weekend it was more of a trickle. The bright sunshine made it hard to get the top of the falls/trickle without the advantage of HDR. My favourite section of the Grand Canyon walk near Blackheath in the Blue Mountains National Park in NSW, Australia. This has been a favourite walk for decades.
