Johnny: Don't need no more! Reed: It's ungrammatical! Reed Richards is elastic, Sue can fad from site. Johnny is the Human Torch, The Thing just loves to fight. Call the four! Fantastic Four! Fantastic Four! This is a completely original design. ANY likeness to those other heroes is a complete coincidence.

The Man-Thing is a large, slow-moving, empathic, humanoid swamp monster living in the Florida Everglades near a Seminole reservation and the fictitious town of Citrusville in Cypress County, Florida. A young biochemist, Dr. Theodore Sallis, is working in the Everglades as part of the Project Gladiator team, a group of scientists attempting to recreate the Super Soldier Serum. Dr. Sallis is transformed into The Man-Thing through the synergistic interaction of mystical energy and swamp mutagens, coupled with a dose of the Super Soldier Serum. Though the beast now lacks a normal human intellect and has shed any desire to communicate with human society, it nevertheless often becomes an accidental hero as it stumbles upon people in need.
