My interpretation of Capricorn.

Capricorn is the tenth astrological sign in the zodiac, originating from the constellation of Capricornus, the horned goat. This illustration is based on beautiful work by Claude Paradin (c. 1510 – 1573),a French writer, collector of emblems or “devises”, historian, and genealogist. I changed some details, like giving the goat a longer horn and an octopus tentacle instead of a fishtail. Tentacles are more my thing, being a Cthulhu fan and all…

Twinkling above in the purple night sky, this belt of the heavens is home to constellations that have intrigued humans for millennia. An earth sign represented by the Sea Goat, Capricorn (December 22 - January 19) is strong, focused, and active.

In India, the zodiac sign of Capricorn is celebrated as the Makara Sankranti festival. The Indian astronomical calendar is not based on the western Gregorian or Julian date keeping system and makes no allowance for the precession of the equinoxes. Hence, the festival is celebrated on either of 14 or 15 January every year, when, as per the Indian astronomical calendar, the Sun enters the Capricorn sign.
