A quick design.

The Washington Senators baseball team was one of the American League's eight charter franchises. The club was founded in Washington, D.C. in 1901 as the Washington Senators. In 1905, the team changed its official name to the Washington Nationals. The name "Nationals" appeared on the uniforms for only two seasons, and was then replaced with the "W" logo for the next 52 years. However, the names "Senators", "Nationals" and shorter "Nats" were used interchangeably by fans and media for the next 60 years.

After graduating from college in Massachusetts, John H. Wilkins Jr. returned home to work with his father, John J. Wilkins Sr., in his wholesale coffee and grocery firm in Washington D.C. Shortly thereafter in 1923, a fire destroyed most of the firm's warehouses and it was at this point that John Jr. persuaded his father to terminate his grocery business and focus on making their own coffee. Wilkins Coffee was born and would soon become an institution that would dominate the greater Washington metropolitan area for decades. The company would eventually give way to national brands some time in the '90s and is now largely remembered for their early TV commercials featuring a young puppeteer named Jim Henson.

Back in 1938 Max Silverman opened a record store at 1836 7th Street in Washington, D.C. under the name Waxie Maxie Quality Music Co. Silverman's store was an instant hit as he stocked it with all the latest recordings as well as those from up-and-coming musicians, including many black artists, something that was still not very common at the time. Silverman began holding jam sessions and live radio broadcasts in the storefront's window, a spot that attracted teens and young adults to the store and became known as the Maxie's goldfish bowl. Silverman would eventually change the store's name to Waxie Maxie's and open over 30 locations throughout the Washington Metropolitan area.
