This painting is based on a photo I took from the Auerbach Castle in Hessen. This castle is not far from where I used to grow up. It used to be one of my favorite destinations to visit. It is painted with Da Vinci Watercolor Tubes on Cold Pressed Arches Paper.

Feldschlößchen or Feldschlösschen can refer to two different brands of beer, produced in breweries located in Dresden, Germany and Rheinfelden, Switzerland. The latter is the biggest brewery in Switzerland and was founded in 1876. It bought out Cardinal in 1991. It was bought by Carlsberg in 2000. The brewery is in the shape of a castle and Feldschlösschen means 'small castle in the fields' in German.

A photo of the castle of Herten in Germany (built during the 16th and 17th century), taken in near-infrared light range. Said near-infrared light makes the trees and grass appear white (where the sun hits them, so they can actually reflect the infrared light), while the sky is almost black. This is "near infrared" because there is some color left; this is also known as "false color infrared" (since complete infrared would not "see" any color).

For more info, see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brandenburg_Gate To stand out among all the great photographers online, I browsed my huge collection of photos from around the United States and Europe, and I noticed that I had a lot of photos of old castles, old town, towers, gates, tunnels, streets, and more – all from the dark ages of Europe. Wikipedia reports at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Middle_Ages that in the nineteenth century, the entire Middle Ages was called the Dark Ages, but that view has changed. Now, historians call the early Middle Ages the Dark Ages. In any case, we’re talking roughly 500 AD...
