Santa Cruz de La Palma, Canary Islands, May 2022 The capital city of the island of La Palma in the Canary Islands, Santa Cruz is known for its centuries old architecture, busy port, and narrow cobbled streets. The Spanish galleon Santa Maria (centre) is supposed to be a replica of the ship that Christopher Columbus sailed across the Atlantic to the Americas. Did Columbus discover America? Nah, it wasn't lost - it was always there! The ship is now part of a Maritime Museum. Date: 12th May 2022

Calle O'Daly, Santa Cruz de La Palma, May 2022 Named after an Irish banana trader, Calle O'Daly is the main street in 'downtown' Santa Cruz, the capital of La Palma, Canary Islands. There are many buildings of historical interest along the street, with many typical Spanish balconies, churches and other establishments. This shot was taken mid-afternoon, while most of the local residents would have been enjoying their siesta. Date: 12th May 2022.

This volcanic awe inspiring landscape can appear quite barren, but also incredibly beautiful. The most significant recorded eruptions here occurred in the 1730s. Date: 15th May 2022.

*Columbus House, Gran Canaria, May 2022* The Casa de Colon (Columbus House) is one of the most interesting buildings in Las Palmas, Gran Canaria, in the Canary Islands. The palace was the residence of the first governors of the island, and it is claimed that Christopher Columbus stayed here in 1492 while one of his ships was being repaired. It features ornate doorways, latticed balconies, large courtyards and carved wooden ceilings. It was rebuilt in 1777, and has been a museum since 1952. Date: 14th May 2022.

Parque García Sanabria, Tenerife, May 2022 Named for the mayor who approved its construction, Parque García Sanabria is a large urban park in the city of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, in the Canary Islands. Many exotic species can be found here including the purple/ble jacaranda trees shown here beyond the ornamental fountains. Date: 13th May 2022.

Volcanic Landscape, Lanzarote, May 2022 Little vegetation grows here in the volcanic landscape of Mount Timanfaya National Park, on the island of Lanzarote (Canary Islands, Spain). To protect the delicate eco-system, access to the park by the public is strictly controlled and regulated. The last significant volcanic eruptions here were in the 1730s, but a handful of gravel from a few centimetres below the surface still feels hot to the touch. Date: 15th May 2022.

Iglesia de San Ginés, Arrecife, Lanzarote, May 2022 The church of San Ginés, in Arrecife, the main city and port of Lanzarote, Canary Islands. The church was built in 1574 on the site of a hermitage that contained images of Saint Peter and Saint Ginés. The church was flooded and completely rebuilt in 1667, and expanded in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. Date: 15th May 2022.
