Trojan, Didcot, August 2021 "Trojan" is an 0-4-0 ST (Saddle Tank) locomotive, built in 1897 by the Avonside Engine Company of Bristol. She was originally operated by Messrs Dunn & Shute of Newport Town Dock and later by the Alexandra Docks Railway, also in Newport (South Wales). In 1923, the Alexandra Docks Railway was absorbed into the Great Western Railway and Trojan was allocated the number 1340. Withdrawn from service by the GWR in 1932, that certainly wasn't the end of the line for Trojan. She moved to the Netherseal colliery in Burton-on-Trent and then onto Alders of Tamworth in 1947, before arriving at Didcot in 1968. Several years of restoration followed, and the engine re-entered service in 2002 after a major boiler refit. Date:...

7822 Foxcote Manor An ex Great Western Railway 4-6-0 Manor Class locomotive, number 7822 'Foxcote Manor' runs around its rake of coaches to head up the 12:15 service from Bishops Lydeard to Minehead on the West Somerset Railway, the UK's longest heritage railway route. The locomotive was built in the Great Western Railway's Swindon works in 1950. After being withdrawn from service in 1965, it was rescued from Woodham Brothers scrapyard in Barry, South Wales in 1974 and subsequently restored to its former glory. Foxcote Manor is currently resplendent in all black British Railways livery. Date: 26th August 2018

Restoration Shed at The East Anglian Railway Museum at Chappel and Wakes Colne station in Essex. HDR created from one RAW file processed as three DNG files in Photomatix, adjustments in CS6 with some help from Topaz filters. Nikon D7200 with Sigma 10-20 zoom.

How happy people with something

A gentle stream of clear water flows peacefully beneath the sturdy rail bridge. The tranquil sound of the trickling water soothes the senses, inviting one to pause and take in the beauty of nature. The surrounding greenery adds to the serenity of the scene.

I have always been fascinated by the intricate details and mechanisms of trains. There's something so mesmerizing about watching them speed along the tracks, their wheels churning and smoke billowing out of their chimneys. As a child, I would spend hours setting up tracks and arranging my collection of trains, creating intricate routes and scenarios for them to follow. Even now, as an adult, I find myself drawn to this hobby as a way to unwind and escape from the stresses of everyday life. There's just something so peaceful about sitting back and watching the trains go by, lost in the rhythmic chugging of the locomotives and the gentle swaying of the cars. For me, playing with trains is not just a hobby - it's a way to connect with the past

Whilst on a steam train from Sheringham to Holt on the North Norfolk railway, I noticed the reflection in the coach windows, this image has been stylised to bring out this reflection.

Looking at the mouth of the River Mawddach from the beach on a late April afternoon. The 764-yard long Barmouth Viaduct carrying the Cambrian railway can be seen crossing the estuary in the background.

Barmouth Bridge is a Grade II listed wooden railway viaduct across the River Mawddach in West Wales. It is 764 yards long and was opened in 1867. This is looking out to sea across the single track bridge on a sunny late April afternoon, having been grey and cloudy when I had arrived in Barmouth only a hour beforehand.
