Picturesque Cinque Terre

*The Tram Inn, Eardisley, October 2021* At the time of writing, the historic Tram Inn (Eardisley, Herefordshire, England) seems to be permanently closed, possibly a victim of the coronavirus pandemic, which is a great shame in my opinion, as I was looking forward to visiting. Built in the 17th century, the inn is named for the Hay Railway, an early narrow gauge, horse-drawn tramway, opened in 1816, connecting Eardisley with the town of Brecon, 24 miles away, and just over the border in Wales. So, has the sun set on the Tram Inn, or will it be restored to its former glory? Date: 25th October 2021.

Waits River, Vermont is probably the best known village in New England. It hasn't changed much over the years and it probably will never change. Someone lit their wood stove just befor I made this photograph and the smoke adds an interesting element. If they lit the stove 15 minutes earlier there wouldn't be any smoke. It was -9f when I made this photograph. I used a view camera. With this type of camera the photographer puts a dark cloth over the camera and his or her head. The image is viewed upside down. I had to remove my gloves to operate the camera and my fingers hurt from the cold.

These dancers were performing at the Jornada de la Recuperación de Oficios Antiguas in our next village, Terque, in La Alpujarra Almeriense, Andalucia, Spain last month. I enjoyed using my watercolour pigments for this painting but I had to be cautious using strong pigments such as cadmium. I also had to strike a balance between isolating the dancers and making the background too busy. The especially primed canvas was ideal for painting on.
