Establishing and maintaining healthy boundaries is a beautiful way to care for yourself, and to help your care for others. When you set thoughtful expectations for your personal relationships, they can more easily be mutually caring and supportive. And, having a conversation about your boundaries gives others opportunities to set their healthy boundaries with you. It can feel super uncomfortable at first, but as a practice I think it gets easier and more rewarding over time.
Just a little reminder that you are worthy of love, of rest, of care and compassion.
Things that do not determine your innate value as a human being:
🌻 your income, your savings, your debt
🌻 your education, grades, degrees, accolades
🌻 the number of your friends & connections
🌻 your social media stats
🌻 your job, your hobbies
🌻 your age, where you're from, where you live
🌻 your skillsets, struggles
I LOVE -- and I mean L O V E -- the latest installment of my object of resistance series!!! (I'm not sure if that name is going to stick, but the project is to create a bunch of illustrations based off regular objects in our daily lives).
Let's not get caught up in binaries and old ways of thinking & defining people. There is so much room for variation and creative, authentic expression! Gender, my friends, is a spectrum and I'm so excited to celebrate it 🌈✨
Collective joy and relief are important. Without moments of celebration, it is far too easy to fall into mental & emotional exhaustion and burn out. So, personally, I needed to take the moment trump left office as a win. I needed to take the first female VP, the first woman of color taking that office, as a win. However, I am aware that this is no where near the answer to the problems we are facing, and we are still on this long, long road for equity. Let's celebrate the victories, small and large along the way, and always, always keep going.
sometimes I get so mired down in the day-to-day, and it can be incredibly difficult for me to acknowledge how much has changed. I'm trying very hard to remind myself that growth happens, slowly but surely, one step at a time.
If I had to pick my favorite feminists of 2020, Deb Haaland (she/her) would absolutely be very high on that list. I am so excited for the work Haaland is going to do as Secretary of Interior. She will be the first Native American cabinet secretary in US history. Another magical thing about Haaland -- she's also the proud parent of a queer daughter and was awarded the National Center for Lesbian Rights (NCLR) Vanguard Award in 2019 🌈 "We only have one earth. Let's Take Care Of It." - Deb Haaland
