Crocus Cluster Number of views as of 9th October 2018 = 460. A sure sign of springtime, the humble crocus (plural crocuses or croci) is common in coastal and sub-alpine areas of central and southern Europe, North Africa and the Middle East, and across Central Asia to western China. There are about 80 species, mostly hardy perennials, they grow from 'corms' and are part of the iris family (Iridaceae). They come in various colours, although lilac, mauve, yellow and white are the most common. Interesting fact: the spice saffron is obtained from the stigmas of Crocus sativus, an autumn/fall-blooming species. These croci were photographed in Bournemouth Gardens, Dorset, England. Certainly it was one of the most successful British cars ever built and remained in production from 1948 to 1971, in which time over 1.3 million rolled off the line at Cowley, in Oxfordshire. Pavilion Fountain Number of views as of 9th October 2018 = 590. Some might say that this shot is a little too 'busy', and the daffodils are definitely past their best, but the tulips, palms and buildings in the background make for an interesting composition and mix of colours, so here goes... By the way, it's Bournemouth not Barcelona! The fountain is outside the Pavilion Theatre, and across the road is the former Odeon Cinema. Date: 26th April 2009. A Grand Day Out Number of views as of 3rd June 2017 = 530. The Grand Cinema Theatre in Westbourne, Bournemouth opened its doors on 18th December 1922 with a production of "Anthony and Cleopatra" performed on the stage. The following day, it screened its first film "A Prince of Lovers". The auditorium, complete with orchestra pit, had quite a unique feature, a sliding roof which could be opened in hot summer weather! The entrance was also topped by a revolving globe, which was illuminated at night. Initially an independent cinema, it was taken over by Savoy Cinemas and became part of the original Associated British Cinemas(ABC) circuit. Puck's Dell, North Bournemouth, February 2021 Puck's Dell is a small area of woodland in North Bournemouth (Dorset, England). It forms part of "Gulliver's Trail", a circular walk around the area named after the notorious 18th century smuggler, Isaac Gulliver. Date: 12th February 2021.

The Beach Shack on the 'prom' west of the town's pier was intended to bring a 'Caribbean surf shack aesthetic' to this stretch of the seafront. The cliff lift carries passengers between the beach & the Highcliff Marriott Hotel. Neither are open in January. However, the places that do open their doors throughout the winter months can do pretty well as many locals prefer to visit the beach at this time of the year.
