The first Weiand product, the world's first aluminum intake manifold. debuted in 1937. Weiland would go on to create some of the most innovative performance intake manifolds available while also developing some of the most sought after superchargers ever made.

Using a little photographic magic I created this fantasy cityscape night scene using a photo of a 1934 Ford that I took at a recent antique car show.

Rocco & Cheater's Speed Shop was located at 316 1st Avenue North in Birmingham, Alabama. Brothers Rocco and Cheater Sanfilippo originally opened the business up as a general repair shop in 1944. The boys incorporated in 1946 and their shop quickly became a magnet for hot rodders looking to soup up their cars for the drag strip and for circle track racing. Rocco & Cheater's both sponsored and campaigned cars in numerous races, making them a common name among racers. Dominic, a younger brother, joined the business in 1954, and Domenic's son, Sam, took it over in the '70s, eventually bringing his son in as well. While the shop closed in 2007, rumor has it that the stock remains in storage and is occasionally opened up by appointment...

In the early '70s, JuiceBox Performance Batteries were THE battery of choice for anyone running an extremely high compression and/or high cubic inch racing engine. So, what was the secret sauce? Unlike most traditional batteries with rubber casing, JuiceBox casings were made of polypropylene, which was about 75% thinner and 4x stronger. The extra space inside was used for more acid and more plates, resulting in batteries with 2x the cranking power of traditional builds. This meant that blown big block would turn over every time, even after a hot stall.

D-A Speed Sport Racing Oil hit the market in the early '60s as an alternative to traditional motor oils that just weren't up to the high performance applications of motorsports. From drag racing to grand prix, Speed Sport Racing Oil's specialty formulation stood up to high RPM, high horsepower applications race after race.

A beautiful 1934 Ford Blue Coupe. The 1934 Ford V-8 is famous for being the car in which the notorious Depression-era bandits Bonnie Parker and Clyde Barrow were ambushed and killed.

"Dandy" Dick Landy was a master showman and a major pioneer in Super Stock, Funny Car, and Pro Stock drag racing. He was known for his innovative race cars, wild wheel stands, and his signature look of pressed white pants and jacket and long cigar clenched between his teeth. Automotive Research was Landy's first engine-building and tuning shop, opened in Sherman Oaks, California, in the early 1960s. Later, he would change the name to Dick Landy Industries and move to nearby Northridge. The business, which also employed his brother who acted as crew chief and engine builder, would continue until Landy's death in 2007.

Hot Rod Rumble

Great Lakes Dragaway is a quarter mile dragstrip in the Town of Paris, Kenosha County, near Union Grove, Wisconsin. The drag strip opened in 1955, making it the 2nd oldest continuously operating drag strip in the country after Inyokern Airport closed. #1 is Redding Raceway in California, which opened in 1953. In the early days of the track, races were started by a flagman (before drag strip Christmas Trees) and cars sometimes raced four abreast.

Oswego Drag Raceway opened in Illinois in 1955 as one of the first purpose-built drag strips in the country. Most drag strips were built on abandoned runways, but Oswego was built from scratch by Dan and Wally Smith. The brothers had inherited the farmland it sat on from their parents. The Oswego Dragway became a go-to hangout for the youth in the greater Chicago area, but increasingly fierce competition made it much more than a hangout for diehard racers. The Oswego Drag Raceway operated until 1979 and the remnants of the drag strip can still be seen from Route 34, west of Oswego if you know where to look as you pass by.
