WKRP in Cincinnati was a sitcom television series that focused on the misadventures of the staff of a struggling radio station in Cincinnati, Ohio. The show was created by Hugh Wilson and was based upon his experiences working in advertising sales at Top 40 radio station WQXI in Atlanta. Many of the characters and even some of the stories (including season 1 episode 7, “Turkeys Away”) are based on people and events at WQXI. This design is based on the t-shirts the crew wore during their annual baseball game against WPIG in season 2, episode 3.

KSOL 107.7 SOUL Bay Area Defunct Radio Station

From 1980 through 1986, Houston's KSRR operated as '97 Star FM,' as a largely top 40 station. Late 1986 saw the station relaunched as '97 Rock Houston,' and transitioned to an album oriented rock (AOR) format, using the slogan 'Kick Ass Rock 'N' Roll!' 97 Rock brought in national talent to host a new drive time morning show, and the station successfully competed against the AOR format stations in the Houston market to be the dominant FM radio broadcaster.

WPIG was a rival to WKRP and were often referred to as 'filthy swine' in their ability to always one up WKRP and maintain their position as Cincinnati's number one radio station on both AM and FM dials.

Vintage radio

CFMI 101 Vancouver first signed on in 1970 with a very-short-lived country music format. This was followed by a light-popular music format before becoming more of a traditional rock station. Over the years, the station increasingly added FM transmitters throughout British Columbia before reaching 100,000 watts of power and considerable reach. This design is based on their very 70s looking rainbow logo which they used for many years.

WASH evolved from experimental FM station, W3XL, which was first licensed in September 1945 in Kansas City, and later moved to Washington, D.C. WASH debuted as Washington's second commercial FM station on December 17, 1946, initially relaying Overseas Service programming and broadcasting thrice-daily time signals while building their studio. In 1968, Metromedia acquired the station, trading news for an adult contemporary format. In the early '80s, the station attempted to do a Top 40/CHR format, publicized with a rather strange "WASH with the Stars" advertising campaign. After a few years with little success against D.C.'s established Top 40 stations, WASH returned to a full service adult contemporary format.
