Kelpie: (in Scottish legends) a water spirit, usually having the form of a horse, reputed to cause drownings or to warn those in danger of drowning.

Elizabeth of Hungary (13th century), the patron saint of the beggars, adorns a fountain in the old city of Basel in Switzerland. I used to pass the fountain every day on my way to school and still feel a special affection for this delicate sculpture by Swiss sculptor Hans Rudolf Meili who created it in 1862.

The Place de la Concorde is one of the major public squares in Paris, France, and the largest square in the French capital. It is located at the eastern end of the Champs-Élysées. For more info on it, please refer to my previous images with the title "Place De La Concorde". At each corner of the octagonal square there stands a statue representing a French town. This specific one shown here represents the Town of Strasbourg (located at the northeast corner of the square on the Rue de Rivoli side. This series is about a few notable composers displayed in beautiful sculptural works at the entrance as well at the interior of the Opera Garnier in Paris. Franz Joseph Haydn was a prolific Austrian composer of the Classical period.
