The origins and purpose of this patch remains unclear, even now. It is believed the green figure holding the dagger is wearing the cloak to represent the cloak and dagger nature often associated with black projects. There is a star in the northern hemisphere over Europe and under the letter "S" and another red star in the American Southwest. The red star may be a reference to an operating location but it is not clear what it might be. It remains a mystery....

This secret patch comes from the 22nd Military Airlift Squadron based at Travis, AFB. The 22nd MAS is responsible for picking up, carrying the delivering parts and aircraft for the various black budget programs in the USAF, hence DON'T ASK, it's NOYFB (None of your F'n Business!)

This patch, which is linked to Air Test and Evaluation Squadron Nine, is believed to date back to when the unit was involved with the TSSAM missile program. According to Trevor Paglen, the latin, written in the passive voice the translation of the Latin would be “I could tell you, but then you would have to be destroyed by me.”

The second of two patches known to represent the Lockheed Martin Skunkworks project called "Desert Prowler." Almost nothing is known of the actual project but the roman numerals represent IX=9 XI=11.

TENCAP is an acronym for Tactical Exploitation of National Capabilities, a collection of programs that involve developing tactical (battlefield) applications out of reconnaissance satellite capabilities (which are normally thought of as strategic). Based out of Schriever AFB. "Special" almost invariably means "black" or highly classified. The phrase "Oderint Dum Metuant" is associated with Caligula, the First century Roman emperor whose name became synonymous with depravity, madness, cruelty, and tyranny. It translates "Let them hate so long as they fear".

This patch is from an unknown Scaled Composites aircraft project based at Edwards Air Force Base.

"Keep your distance, you who are uninitiated." The motto of the 416th Flight Test Squadron Special Projects Flight based at Edwards Air Force Base. The phrase, "Procul Este Profani" is associated with Virgil's The Aeneid. It comes from when Apollo arrives at the Temple of Apollo where the prophet Sibyl utters the words "Procul, O procul este profane" before descending into Hades and discovering the future of Rome.
