Vegetation is reduced to small stunted plants, with stony desert and some small dunes. The mountains and hills are dark and metallic looking. Mongolia. These areas are hot in the short summer and bitterly cold in the winter. Canon 500D, zoom lens (macro setting). (Featured in Monochrome.)

A track leads to the tank ruts on Salisbury Plain, Wiltshire, training ground of the British military. Another of my 'Mean and Moody' series of landscapes. From an Infra red photo taken in 1981, long has it lain in my mysterious vaults...finally completed 2 weeks ago. Taken on a Pentax Me Super, 24mm lens, Kodak Infra-Red film, Hoya IR filter, processed in a tank covered in Aluminium foil, as it was heat sensitive! 15 second exposure.

Dunes in the Southern Gobi Desert. Only about 5 percent of the Gobi is dunes. The rest is rocky, desiccated, dry, stony vistas dominated by rugged metallic looking mountains and hills, with stunted or no vegetation. Hot in a short summer & bitterly cold in winter. Mongolia. London sometime in November 2016. Not much of a story behind this, I just looked up and thought it looked so dark but beautiful I just had to take a picture.
