The first true Grand National model, clad in the model's iconic gloss black with pretty much zero chrome trim, debuted in 1984 and was instantly hailed as a triumph of performance by the automotive press. Pumping out a then-stout 200 horsepower and 300 pound-feet of torque, the rear-wheel drive, 3.8-liter turbo coupe blew the doors off just about everything on the road. The Grand National was a subtle sleeper, giving even the Italian supercars a run for their money... and winning almost every time. Despite high demand for these road rockets, the production number remained low before the plug was pulled, so they are still a hot commodity among car enthusiasts and collectors alike today.

Riverside Speedway was a 1/4 mile dirt track built on top of an old landfill in Nipawin, Saskatchewan. The track opened in 1983, hosting regular racing events several nights a week and, after a full 20-year run, shut down in 2003. From midgets and outlaws to stocks and modifieds, racers from throughout Saskatchewan and beyond made countless memories tearing up the dirt at Riverside Speedway.

The Fremont Dragstrip was a racing venue for dragster automobiles that was located in Fremont, California in the San Francisco Bay Area, operating from 1959 until the end of 1988. In its final years, it was renamed Baylands Raceway Park. The site lies in the quadrant just south of the intersection of Interstate 880 and Auto Mall Parkway. The track was constructed on land leased from the Southern Pacific Railroad, which had acquired the land from the U.S. Navy after World War II. The Army had constructed a small airfield on the site just prior to the war, which was subsequently taken over by the Navy during the war (Naval Outlying Landing Field Heath). Back in the late '50s, hot rodders were increasingly attracted to newer cars making their way into junkyards, or more specifically, the OHV V8 engines they brought with them. An engine that made more power than their flathead V8's, was all too enticing, though the swap wasn't exactly straight forward. Of course, hot rodders were an ingenious bunch, and came up with all kinds of mounting solutions, but none of them were exactly great (or safe). Seeing a need, Hurst came out with their Adjusta-Torque engine conversion mount in 1960, promising a true bolt on solution for OHV engine swaps.

Moto Laverda was an Italian high performance motorcycle manufacturer. Their bikes were held in high regard, and had a reputation for being extremely robust. The roots of the Laverda go back to 1873, when Pietro Laverda started an agricultural engines enterprise in Breganze, Italy. 76 years later, Pietro's grandson founded Moto Laverda, and over the next 20 years, would go on to produce models in different sectors of the market. Off-road, trial and motocross machines were developed in conjunction with other manufacturers, and were successfully raced, but the real development came in street models. From an initial 75cc single, to a 1000cc V6, Laverdas were exciting bikes, but sadly, Japanese competition was ultimately their undoing.
