Also known as the runic compass, or the Viking compass, the Vegvisir made of eight Viking rune staves, is renowned as a symbol of guidance and protection by Vikings. Vegvisir itself means 'wayfinder' and 'sign post' in Icelandic language.

It is said in the ancient viking scrips from Iceland, that whoever wears the Vegvisir, shall never lose his way. Not even when the way is not known.
