The Duquesne Incline is a century-old cable car. Originally opened in 1877, the Duquesne Incline was rescued and restored by a group of local residents in 1963. You can view downtown Pittsburgh and its three rivers: The Allegheny, Monongahela, and Ohio. The French were the first Europeans to settle in any significant size in this area. The rivers provided easy transportation and served as trade routes. The land near the rivers became the focus of battles for domination of the new world.
