My drawing for #inktober - “ash.” On the night of July 18, 1775, Colonel John Ashe and his New Hanover County regiment were part of the patriot forces that burned Fort Johnston, which had been the headquarters of Royal Governor Josiah Martin. Martin learned of the attack in advance and fled on a British Warship in to the Cape Fear River. He was able to see the flames from his place on the ship. This is my interpretation of this event.

The legend of the phoenix. A mythical bird that lives for an eternity in cycles of 500 to 1000 years, ending every life cycle by igniting in flames and turning to ash, only to be reborn from the very ashes itself. It's rebirth as a stronger and more powerful entity. Stories of the phoenix have been told as far back as ancient Egyptian times. This is a very personal piece. It's one that I have needed to create for a long time. It's also one that I didn't know how to create, or even if I would be able to. I asked Ash to create an artwork containing Ash, Bishop, Call, David and Walter. Ash was born and raised in Minnesota and grew up inhabiting a plethora of different nerdy microcosms. She is currently investing my time into a degree in Comic Art at the Minneapolis College of Art and Design, with the hopes to someday publish her own stories and work professionally.
