A Beautiful Spot There is this specific spot in Voorburg at the beginning of the Herenstraat where it is particulary beautiful. There is a small ditch in front of an old mansion with a big tree in front of it, making it a rather English site than typical dutch. I loved doing the cast shadows in this one and they make me long for summer days during which I can depict them wherever I may be the next coming months. Watercolor on gessoed paper, 14 3/4" x 21 3/4 ", 2007. Set at Trojan, near Rainier, Oregon, the blue heron takes flight over the marshy stream and beyond the footbridge as the mountains beckon in the distance. Painted in a light, loose, impressionistic style with colors of purple and green.

This is Grey, a hen who lives in Eastern Washington. She's quite a character and great to hang around with. She did not have to wear earmuffs, but I added them using photoshop. All of the actual drawing was hand drawn using colored pencils.

Living in The Netherlands it’s imposssible to escape the legacy of Rembrandt and Vermeer. Surely not the inventors of chiaroscuro effects but they took lighting to another level. So no surprise there they are world famous. Consequently I became fascinated by the light too.
