This is from a set of dark paintings around 1997. I did 4 paintings limiting myself to a pallet of 1 color and black. This one is Black and Red. It is about regrets that we cling onto fondly and don’t allow us to completely move on. Especially bad relationships have their effect on future relationship if they are not fully purged. Like a repentant sinner who still clings onto the pleasurable moments and feels a tug and a weight on his forward motion. It’s like Frodo slipping on the ring and seeing the dark world that still pursues him.
