Axolotls have begun to suffer from the introduction of large fish into its lake habitat. Populations are Also in decline as the demands of nearby Mexico City have led to the draining and contamination of much of the waters of the Xochimilco Lake complex, which is the only place they are found.

Did you know that axolotls don't mature past their larval stage except in very rare cases? They retrain their youthful appearance for the duration of their lives, merely growing bigger. The few that do mature past their larval stage emerge on land as adult salamanders. This design might not be as cute as an axolotl, but it is still cool.
