Ocelot was Paloma Preston, graduate student and daughter of a prominent family aghast at her desire to eschew coming out balls and society teas for field work in the wildest regions of sub-Saharan Africa. Her passion for studying big cats could not be quelled, however, and when her family threatened to disown her in a last ditch effort to change her mind, she decamped for Sudan with scarcely a backward glance.
