The witch has always been a controversial figure. Loathed and feared, it has been reclaimed as an incarnation of power and equality through feminism and movements such as #metoo . Beware of the witches: times are changing.

A contemporary Celtic design inspired by the motifs found in the early mediaeval illuminated manuscripts such as the Book of Kells and the Lindisfarne Gospels.

The words read "daughter of Huitastierna" in the Gothic language and the image below is my recreation of the Snake-Witch Stone from Gotland. Huitastierna's name means "white star". Hafthi was the first man to settle Gotland, with his wife Huitastierna. The Guta Saga states that they had 3 sons and the triskelion is said to represent a boar, eagle, and wolf. If you have Gothic ancestry, according to legend, Huitastierna is your progenitor.

This image depicts the wonderful terracotta roofs of Dubrovnik, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It's a sad fact that most of the roofs in the city were destroyed during the siege of Dubrovnik in late 1991. Since that time, the roofs have been restored with new terracotta roof tiles, which today gives the city a marvelous reddy-orange glow. This image, captured from the vantage point of the old city wall, provides a stunning view across the city and south towards the Adriatic Sea.
