The Eurasian magpie or common magpie (Pica pica) is a resident breeding bird throughout the northern part of the Eurasian continent. It is one of several birds in the crow family (corvids) designated magpies, and belongs to the Holarctic radiation of "monochrome" magpies.

A shadow passed over head, it was big. I looked up to catch the graceful descent of a majestic Wedge-Tailed Eagle. I followed and hoped I might just be lucky enough to see where she landed. Yes, slowly I move in. I was able to get quite close before she ruffled up her feathers to let me know that was close enough, come no further. Clearly a young bird, with those beautiful golden feathers.

Ducks have notoriously bad eyesight at night. and are just as likely to prang into something.... hence the name duck (verb) if you ever heard one flying at night. This one flew into my studio at midnight and was a bit dazed for a little while. The pink-eared duck is a species of duck found in Australia. It has a large spatulate bill like the Australasian shoveler, but is smaller at 38–40 cm length. Its brown back and crown, black and white barred sides and black eye patches on its otherwise white face make this bird unmistakable.

Major Mitchell's cockatoo (Lophochroa leadbeateri), also known as Leadbeater's cockatoo or the pink cockatoo,[2] is a medium-sized cockatoo restricted to arid and semi-arid inland areas of Australia, though it is seen regularly in other climates, for example, South-East Queensland's subtropical region. It is here placed in its own monotypic genus Lophochroa, though to include it in Cacatua as others do is not wrong as long as the corellas are also included there. They are also a type of cockatoo.[3][4]

The rainbow lorikeet (Trichoglossus moluccanus) is a species of parrot found in Australia. It is common along the eastern seaboard, from northern Queensland to South Australia. Its habitat is rainforest, coastal bush and woodland areas. Several taxa traditionally listed as subspecies of the rainbow lorikeet are now treated as separate species, 6 species have now been identified (see Taxonomy).

The eastern water dragon (Intellagama lesueurii) inhabits the coastal water courses of eastern Australia from northern Queensland to Gippsland in eastern Victoria. It is a good tree climber and likes to laze on branches overhanging the water. If disturbed it will drop into the water and swim to the bottom to wait for the danger to pass, staying under for up to 30 minutes if necessary.
